Author Anne Sebba starts the book saying, “I hope to humanize rather than demonize the woman known as Wallis Simpson.” However, it would appear that her efforts have been in vain; for how can one forgive a woman whose involvement with a man led him to make the ultimate sacrifice – his kingdom – for her. The book seems to be a well-researched account of Wallis’ long and checkered life, including the events that led to King Edward VIII abdicating the throne in order to marry her. There have been several biographies and books of fiction written on this subject, but I think this is one of the best. (submitted by library customer MA)
