The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society – Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

This engaging story is shaped through letters written from various characters’ points of view. A well-travelled book launches witty and sparkling Juliet’s acquaintance with the residents of Guernsey Island, who then write back to Juliet about the Island’s occupation by the Germans during World War II. Lively stories of small rebellions are interspersed with Islander’s sobering reflections of difficult times. When Juliet goes to visit the island, fast friends are made and Juliet makes surprising discoveries which are to change her life forever. Packed with fascinating characters, this book comes to an end all too quickly for my liking. (submitted by library customer SS)
