Wicked Bugs: The Louse That Conquered Napoleon’s Army & Other Diabolical Insects – Amy Stewart

Ugh! This book reaffirmed my disavowal of open-toed shoes. The book describes various horrible bugs in alphabetical order, with the occasional breaks in pattern to discuss certain types of bugs that fall under a common theme (such as bugs used in warfare, etc.). It’s perfect for budding etymologists! The illustrations are beautiful, and feel like something out of an 19th century biologist’s handbook. It may, however, make you a terrible conversationalist – I found myself sharing tales of bugs burrowing into toes and swimming in eyes for several days afterwards. What fun! (submitted by NE)
