A Vintage Affair – Isabel Wolff

vintage_affair_imageI picked this up thinking it would be a light and fluffy read, but it turned out to be an engaging story with considerable depth.  It’s about people, really, not dresses.  The author employs vintage clothing items – impressively researched –as catalysts to connect a multi-layered plot that involves both contemporary and historical elements. Phoebe is coming to terms with her own demons from the past, while helping an older woman come to terms with a terrible mistake she’s been living with since WWII.  Sympathetic characters and a satisfying, though poignant, ending.
