The Last Dragon – Jane Yolen

last_dragon_imageDragons have been extinct for two hundred years until one hatchling awakens to wreak havoc with the innocence of a predating animal. The healer’s daughter and her town of Meddlesome must work together to save themselves, but the hero brought from across the sea may be over his head. This is a morally complex tale – neither the dragon nor the townspeople are portrayed as evil. The art is sublime, especially in its colouring. As compelling as the story was, I lingered adoringly at every page. Appreciators of art and fairytales that subvert expectations should definitely pick this title up. (submitted by NE)
