The Biscuit Barrel – David Slater

biscuit_barrel_imageI was fascinated this novel based on true events in his family’s history. Local author David inherited an antique biscuit barrel that once belonged to his grandparents—it was tightly sealed and when opened it revealed letters dating back to 1918. What follows is David’s creative rendition of the events that led to the letters—the story of a police officer named Hastings who lived and worked in Rhodesia when the novel opens in 1914. From life in Africa following the Boer War to the start of World War 1 and the nightlife of Paris—this novel was a fascinating account of historical events rife with adulterous affairs, murder, race relations , and a Titanic crossing. Meet David at Authors Among Us: “Love and Loss: How Great Emotions Fuel Creativity” at Guildford Library on Wed, March 5 at 7pm. Call 604-598-7366 to reserve your spot! (submitted by MS)
